I think both Fiona and Cordelia do a lot of posturing. Deep down you only ever hate someone that much when they affect you so greatly. Fiona loves her child desperately and feels so guilty about what she’s done to her, abandoning her as a child. And at the same time she’s infuriated because Cordelia doesn’t love and worship her the way everybody else does.
